16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, it is fitting that we pay tribute to those exemplary organizations that work |

17 | 17 | | with purpose and conviction to improve the quality of education in their respective communities; |

19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, one such esteemed organization is Peer Power, which celebrates its |
---|
20 | 20 | | twentieth anniversary this year, marking two decades of transformative impact in education in |
---|
21 | 21 | | Memphis; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, founded in 2004 by Charlie McVean, Peer Power has become a pillar of |
---|
23 | 23 | | success in Memphis; since its inception, the organization has provided over 1.2 million hours of |
---|
24 | 24 | | tutoring and mentoring, employed more than 2,000 students as Success Coaches, and helped |
---|
25 | 25 | | participating students attain a ninety-one percent graduation rate, outpacing the district average; |
---|
26 | 26 | | and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, ninety-two percent of the schools served by Peer Power have shown |
---|
28 | 28 | | academic growth, demonstrating real, measurable success; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, more than simply a tutoring program, Peer Power is a workforce |
---|
30 | 30 | | development initiative that equips students with skills for lifelong success; by partnering with |
---|
31 | 31 | | Memphis-Shelby County Schools and the University of Memphis, the organization strengthens |
---|
32 | 32 | | both education and the local community; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Peer Power's legacy is one of empowerment, opportunity, and excellence, |

34 | 34 | | and the organization will certainly continue to impact countless students for the next twenty |
