1313 A RESOLUTION to recognize and commend Peer Power on the
1414 occasion of its twentieth anniversary.

1616 WHEREAS, it is fitting that we pay tribute to those exemplary organizations that work
1717 with purpose and conviction to improve the quality of education in their respective communities;
1818 and
1919 WHEREAS, one such esteemed organization is Peer Power, which celebrates its
2020 twentieth anniversary this year, marking two decades of transformative impact in education in
2121 Memphis; and
2222 WHEREAS, founded in 2004 by Charlie McVean, Peer Power has become a pillar of
2323 success in Memphis; since its inception, the organization has provided over 1.2 million hours of
2424 tutoring and mentoring, employed more than 2,000 students as Success Coaches, and helped
2525 participating students attain a ninety-one percent graduation rate, outpacing the district average;
2626 and
2727 WHEREAS, ninety-two percent of the schools served by Peer Power have shown
2828 academic growth, demonstrating real, measurable success; and
2929 WHEREAS, more than simply a tutoring program, Peer Power is a workforce
3030 development initiative that equips students with skills for lifelong success; by partnering with
3131 Memphis-Shelby County Schools and the University of Memphis, the organization strengthens
3232 both education and the local community; and
3333 WHEREAS, Peer Power's legacy is one of empowerment, opportunity, and excellence,
3434 and the organization will certainly continue to impact countless students for the next twenty
3535 years and beyond; now, therefore,

4040 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
4141 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
4242 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, tha t we recognize and commend Peer Power on the
4343 occasion of its twentieth anniversary, expressing our gratitude for the organization's
4444 transformative impact in education throughout Memphis and our best wishes for its continued
4545 success.
4646 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
4747 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
4848 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
