SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 212

A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate Austin Spangler on his 
receipt of the Governor's Volunteer Stars Award. 
 
 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should specially 
recognize those estimable citizens who have dedicated their time and energies to helping 
others; and 
 WHEREAS, each year, 1.3 million Tennessee volunteers give over 99 million hours of 
community service, contributing $2.6 billion to Tennessee's economy; and 
 WHEREAS, these volunteers are the backbone of our communities, and by donating 
their time and talents to fulfill needs that would otherwise go unmet, they embody the spirit of 
giving; and 
 WHEREAS, Austin Spangler of Trousdale County is one such exemplary person, who is 
a recipient of the Governor's Volunteer Stars Award in recognition of his laudable commitment 
to his community; and 
 WHEREAS, Mr. Spangler has been a member of 4-H Club since fourth grade and a 
member of Student Council since the sixth grade; he is a part of FFA, and he volunteers with 
the Trousdale County Fair and serves on the Youth Fair Board; and 
 WHEREAS, as one of only a few youths assisting with the fair, Austin Spangler provides 
an invaluable service, both helping lift and move heavy objects in addition to recruiting other 
youth to assist in fair setup and operation; and 
 WHEREAS, when he is not at school, Mr. Spangler manages cattle at Gregory Cattle, 
and he works for Farmer's Harvest three nights a week; he is also active at Barton's Creek 
Baptist Church; and

 WHEREAS, the son of Jessie and Dennis Spangler, Austin Spangler makes his parents 
proud; after his graduation from high school, he plans to attend Volunteer State Community 
College before transferring to Tennessee Technological University to pursue a degree in high 
school agricultural education; and 
WHEREAS, Mr. Spangler is a model citizen; his commitment to helping others through 
volunteerism epitomizes the spirit of the Volunteer State, and he should be specially recognized; 
now, therefore, 
 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH 
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF 
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor Austin Spangler for his outstanding 
community leadership, congratulate him as an esteemed recipient of the Governor's Volunteer 
Stars Award, and extend to him our best wishes for every future success. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared 
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to 
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear 
without House or Senate designation.
