1212 A RESOLUTION to designate April 17 as "Tennessee TriStar Day"
1313 in honor of the State Flag of Tennessee and its
1414 enduring significance to the Volunteer State.

1616 WHEREAS, the State Flag of Tennessee is a symbol of pride, heritage, and unity for the
1717 people of Tennessee, representing the State's history, values, and commitment to its citizens;
1818 and
1919 WHEREAS, designed by Lee Roy Reeves of the Third Regiment of the Tennessee
2020 National Guard and officially adopted by the Tennessee General Assembly on April 17, 1905,
2121 the State Flag of Tennessee has stood as a powerful emblem of State pride for more than a
2222 century; and
2323 WHEREAS, the three stars within the flag's emblem represent the three Grand Divisions
2424 of Tennessee—East, Middle, and West Tennessee—united by a circle that symbolizes the
2525 indissoluble unity of the State; and
2626 WHEREAS, the red field signifies the valor and courage of Tennesseans; the blue circle
2727 signifies the unity of the State; and the white border represents purity and the State's resolve to
2828 uphold noble ideals; and
2929 WHEREAS, the State Flag of Tennessee has served as a banner under which
3030 Tennesseans have celebrated their heritage, defended their freedoms, and contributed to the
3131 advancement of the State and the nation; and
3232 WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to honor the State Flag of Tennessee and to celebrate
3333 its significance with a day dedicated to recognizing its role in Tennessee's history and cultural
3434 identity; now, therefore,

3939 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
4040 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
4141 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that April 17 of each year is hereby designated as
4242 "Tennessee TriStar Day" in honor of the adoption of the State Flag of Tennessee and to
4343 promote awareness of the rich heritage and unity it represents.
4444 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the citizens of Tennessee are encouraged to
4545 observe Tennessee TriStar Day with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and educational
4646 programs that reflect the pride, values, and unity symbolized by the State Flag of Tennessee.
4747 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
4848 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
