12	12	A RESOLUTION to designate April 17 as "Tennessee TriStar Day"
13	13	in honor of the State Flag of Tennessee and its
14	14	enduring significance to the Volunteer State.

16	16	WHEREAS, the State Flag of Tennessee is a symbol of pride, heritage, and unity for the
17	17	people of Tennessee, representing the State's history, values, and commitment to its citizens;
18	18	and
19	19	WHEREAS, designed by Lee Roy Reeves of the Third Regiment of the Tennessee
20	20	National Guard and officially adopted by the Tennessee General Assembly on April 17, 1905,
21	21	the State Flag of Tennessee has stood as a powerful emblem of State pride for more than a
22	22	century; and
23	23	WHEREAS, the three stars within the flag's emblem represent the three Grand Divisions
24	24	of Tennessee—East, Middle, and West Tennessee—united by a circle that symbolizes the
25	25	indissoluble unity of the State; and
26	26	WHEREAS, the red field signifies the valor and courage of Tennesseans; the blue circle
27	27	signifies the unity of the State; and the white border represents purity and the State's resolve to
28	28	uphold noble ideals; and
29	29	WHEREAS, the State Flag of Tennessee has served as a banner under which
30	30	Tennesseans have celebrated their heritage, defended their freedoms, and contributed to the
31	31	advancement of the State and the nation; and
32	32	WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to honor the State Flag of Tennessee and to celebrate
33	33	its significance with a day dedicated to recognizing its role in Tennessee's history and cultural
34	34	identity; now, therefore,

39	39	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
40	40	GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
41	41	REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that April 17 of each year is hereby designated as
42	42	"Tennessee TriStar Day" in honor of the adoption of the State Flag of Tennessee and to
43	43	promote awareness of the rich heritage and unity it represents.
44	44	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the citizens of Tennessee are encouraged to
45	45	observe Tennessee TriStar Day with appropriate ceremonies, activities, and educational
46	46	programs that reflect the pride, values, and unity symbolized by the State Flag of Tennessee.
47	47	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
48	48	for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
