1212 A RESOLUTION to honor the reopening of the historic Loudon
1313 County Courthouse.

1515 WHEREAS, we take great pride in recognizing those venerable public buildings that
1616 stand as beloved historic landmarks in their communities; and
1717 WHEREAS, one such institution is the historic Loudon County Courthouse, which will
1818 celebrate its unveiling and grand reopening on April 26, 2025, as it returns to public service six
1919 years after a fire ravaged the building on April 23, 2019; and
2020 WHEREAS, the devastating fire took several hours to extinguish and led to over $1
2121 million in damages, resulting in the need for extensive restoration and renovation of the great
2222 building, with some changes made for efficiency, aesthetics, and public safety; and
2323 WHEREAS, the historic Loudon County Courthouse was originally constructed in 1872
2424 by J. Wesley and Ira Napoleon Clarke of Sweetwater for a cost of $14,200, according to the
2525 Loudon County TNGenWeb Project; and
2626 WHEREAS, it has been of the utmost importance to the community and the lovers of
2727 Tennessee's treasured heritage that the courthouse was rebuilt and restored to its former glory,
2828 with the bones of the structure used in its rebuilding; and
2929 WHEREAS, the historic Loudon County Courthouse has served the citizens of Loudon
3030 County with justice and honor for 147 years, and it is fitting that this exemplary public institution
3131 be recognized on this truly special occasion; now, therefore,
3232 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENT H

3434 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and celebrate the grand reopening of the

3939 historic Loudon County Courthouse and extend our congratulations and commendations to the
4040 community and all involved for a job well done.
4141 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
4242 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
4343 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
4444 without House or Senate designation.
