15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, we take great pride in recognizing those venerable public buildings that |

16 | 16 | | stand as beloved historic landmarks in their communities; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, one such institution is the historic Loudon County Courthouse, which will |
---|
18 | 18 | | celebrate its unveiling and grand reopening on April 26, 2025, as it returns to public service six |
---|
19 | 19 | | years after a fire ravaged the building on April 23, 2019; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, the devastating fire took several hours to extinguish and led to over $1 |
---|
21 | 21 | | million in damages, resulting in the need for extensive restoration and renovation of the great |
---|
22 | 22 | | building, with some changes made for efficiency, aesthetics, and public safety; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, the historic Loudon County Courthouse was originally constructed in 1872 |
---|
24 | 24 | | by J. Wesley and Ira Napoleon Clarke of Sweetwater for a cost of $14,200, according to the |
---|
25 | 25 | | Loudon County TNGenWeb Project; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, it has been of the utmost importance to the community and the lovers of |
---|
27 | 27 | | Tennessee's treasured heritage that the courthouse was rebuilt and restored to its former glory, |
---|
28 | 28 | | with the bones of the structure used in its rebuilding; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, the historic Loudon County Courthouse has served the citizens of Loudon |
---|
30 | 30 | | County with justice and honor for 147 years, and it is fitting that this exemplary public institution |
---|
31 | 31 | | be recognized on this truly special occasion; now, therefore, |
---|
32 | 32 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENT H |
