1212 A RESOLUTION to honor and commend the Middle Tennessee
1313 Chapter of the National Action Network.

1515 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly pay tribute to those
1616 exemplary organizations that work with purpose and conviction to improve the quality of life in
1717 their respective communities; and
1818 WHEREAS, one such esteemed organization is the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the
1919 National Action Network, a grassroots effort that has worked tirelessly to address local issues,
2020 champion social justice, and promote equality; and
2121 WHEREAS, on May 15, 2025, the chapter will host the 2

2323 Annual Black Diamond Ball,
2424 an event that promises to inspire, empower, and drive positive change while celebrating
2525 equality, diversity, and social justice and
2626 WHEREAS, founded in 1991 by Reverend Al Sharpton, the National Action Network
2727 (NAN) is one of the leading civil rights organizations in the country, with chapters throughout the
2828 United States; the organization works within the spirit and tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,
2929 to promote a modern civil rights agenda that includes the fight for one standard of justice,
3030 decency, and equal opportunities for all people; and
3131 WHEREAS, the Middle Tennessee Chapter of NAN is dedicated to the pursuit of justice,
3232 equality, and human rights for all citizens; the chapter is guided by a mission to empower
3333 individuals and communities to actively engage in the fight against discrimination, bigotry, and
3434 systemic injustice; and
3535 WHEREAS, the chapter is devoted to promoting criminal justice reform, supporting
3636 police accountability, upholding voting rights, assisting with crisis intake and victim assistance,
3737 and advocating for youth leadership; and

4242 WHEREAS, the initiatives of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of NAN often lead to the
4343 creation of supportive networks, educational opportunities, and essential resources for
4444 marginalized communities; and
4545 WHEREAS, the chapter strives to cultivate a sense of belonging and shared purpose
4646 among residents, thereby strengthening the social fabric of neighborhoods; by raising
4747 awareness, mobilizing resources, and influencing policies, activists inspire individuals to engage
4848 in meaningful dialogue, challenge injustice, and contribute to the betterment of the community;
4949 and
5050 WHEREAS, community activism is the cornerstone of a vibrant, inclusive society, driving
5151 positive transformations and fostering a sense of unity among its members; it is most fitting that
5252 we recognize this important organization and its continued good work; now, therefore,
5353 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
5454 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
5555 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and commend the Middle Tennessee
5656 Chapter of the National Action Network, commending the chapter's role in fostering positive
5757 change throughout the State.
5858 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
5959 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
6060 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
6161 without House or Senate designation.
