15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly pay tribute to those |

16 | 16 | | exemplary organizations that work with purpose and conviction to improve the quality of life in |

17 | 17 | | their respective communities; and |

18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, one such esteemed organization is the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the |
---|
19 | 19 | | National Action Network, a grassroots effort that has worked tirelessly to address local issues, |
---|
20 | 20 | | champion social justice, and promote equality; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, on May 15, 2025, the chapter will host the 2 |

23 | 23 | | Annual Black Diamond Ball, |

24 | 24 | | an event that promises to inspire, empower, and drive positive change while celebrating |

25 | 25 | | equality, diversity, and social justice and |

26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, founded in 1991 by Reverend Al Sharpton, the National Action Network |
---|
27 | 27 | | (NAN) is one of the leading civil rights organizations in the country, with chapters throughout the |
---|
28 | 28 | | United States; the organization works within the spirit and tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., |
---|
29 | 29 | | to promote a modern civil rights agenda that includes the fight for one standard of justice, |
---|
30 | 30 | | decency, and equal opportunities for all people; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, the Middle Tennessee Chapter of NAN is dedicated to the pursuit of justice, |
---|
32 | 32 | | equality, and human rights for all citizens; the chapter is guided by a mission to empower |
---|
33 | 33 | | individuals and communities to actively engage in the fight against discrimination, bigotry, and |
---|
34 | 34 | | systemic injustice; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, the chapter is devoted to promoting criminal justice reform, supporting |
---|
36 | 36 | | police accountability, upholding voting rights, assisting with crisis intake and victim assistance, |
---|
37 | 37 | | and advocating for youth leadership; and |

48 | 48 | | in meaningful dialogue, challenge injustice, and contribute to the betterment of the community; |

55 | 55 | | REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and commend the Middle Tennessee |

58 | 58 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared |
