1212 A RESOLUTION to recognize and commend Chief Joe Williams of
1313 the White House Community Volunteer Fire
1414 Department.

1616 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that we should honor those citizens who have performed
1717 with uncommon devotion and enthusiasm throughout their years of public service; and
1818 WHEREAS, Chief Joe Williams is one such estimable individual, who has served with
1919 distinction for forty-six years as a member of the White House Community Volunteer Fire
2020 Department; and
2121 WHEREAS, early observances of local fires, including a home on his parents' farm
2222 catching fire when he was in kindergarten, influenced Chief Williams's decision to devote his life
2323 as a firefighter; and
2424 WHEREAS, as a boy, he witnessed a neighborhood fire, watched the fire trucks pull in,
2525 and ran over to the scene, where firemen let him help pull the hose; after that, when he heard
2626 fire trucks coming, he waited at the end of his driveway, and the firefighters stopped and picked
2727 him up to go along; and
2828 WHEREAS, when he was eleven years old, he lost his father; it was then that local
2929 firefighters were instrumental in stepping up to serve as father figures in his life; and
3030 WHEREAS, Chief Williams officially began his service to the citizens of White House in
3131 1979, at the age of only sixteen; at that time, he was also working with the local volunteer
3232 ambulance service; and
3333 WHEREAS, during his distinguished tenure, Chief Williams has served in his roles as
3434 Assistant Chief and now Chief with a great deal of pride, always doing his utmost to bring honor,
3535 integrity, and compassionate service to his office; and

4040 WHEREAS, Chief Joe Williams has inspired his sons to devote their efforts to
4141 firefighting, as well; one of his sons works behind the scenes with statistics and information, and
4242 the other has made firefighting a lifetime career; and
4343 WHEREAS, firefighting has been a way of life for Joe Williams, and he has wholly
4444 devoted himself to serving his community for more than four decades, earning the admiration
4545 and respect of his colleagues and a grateful public; and
4646 WHEREAS, Chief Williams exemplifies the spirit and allegiance to family and community
4747 that are characteristic of a true Tennessean; and
4848 WHEREAS, Chief Joe Williams has demonstrated the utmost professionalism, ability,
4949 and integrity while serving and protecting the residents of White House; now, therefore,
5050 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUND RED FOURTEENTH
5151 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
5252 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we recognize and commend Chief Joe Williams of
5353 the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department, extending our gratitude for his many
5454 years of devoted service.
5555 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
5656 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
5757 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
5858 without House or Senate designation.
