15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, it is appropriate that this General Assembly should honor those citizens who |

16 | 16 | | have performed with uncommon devotion and enthusiasm throughout their careers in public |

17 | 17 | | service; and |

18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Seanne Wilson is one such individual, who has recently retired after a |
---|
19 | 19 | | distinguished and purpose-filled career in public service and higher education, culminating in |
---|
20 | 20 | | sixteen years of exceptional service at Tennessee State University (TSU); and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Wilson began her professional journey with the State of Tennessee at |
---|
22 | 22 | | the Department of Labor and Workforce Development and later served with distinction at the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Department of Commerce and Insurance; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, a proud third-generation graduate of Tennessee State University, Seanne |
---|
25 | 25 | | Wilson returned to her beloved alma mater to begin a new and impactful chapter, initially |
---|
26 | 26 | | serving in the Office of the President as executive assistant to Dr. Melvin N. Johnson, the |
---|
27 | 27 | | seventh president of TSU, and subsequently working under interim president Dr. Portia Holmes |
---|
28 | 28 | | Shields, who appointed Ms. Wilson to the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, she was later promoted by TSU's eighth president, Dr. Glenda Glover, to |
---|
30 | 30 | | serve as director of the TSU Women's Center within the Division of Student Affairs, a role in |
---|
31 | 31 | | which she flourished for more than a decade, empowering, uplifting, and transforming the lives |
---|
32 | 32 | | of young women on campus; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, under her leadership, the TSU Women's Center became a beacon of |
---|
34 | 34 | | support and advancement for women, and Ms. Wilson led the celebrated Women of Legend and |

35 | 35 | | Merit Awards Dinner for ten years, an event that honored outstanding women and inspired |
---|

46 | 46 | | individuals to heal from trauma, particularly through her books Overcoming Me and Overcoming |

47 | 47 | | You, as well as her podcast and speaking engagements at conferences, churches, and schools; |

53 | 53 | | WHEREAS, Seanne Wilson's distinguished career in public service and higher education |

54 | 54 | | exemplifies her dedication to improving the lives of all Tennesseans, and she should be |

56 | 56 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH |
