1212 A RESOLUTION to recognize Seanne Wilson on the occasion of
1313 her retirement.

1515 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that this General Assembly should honor those citizens who
1616 have performed with uncommon devotion and enthusiasm throughout their careers in public
1717 service; and
1818 WHEREAS, Seanne Wilson is one such individual, who has recently retired after a
1919 distinguished and purpose-filled career in public service and higher education, culminating in
2020 sixteen years of exceptional service at Tennessee State University (TSU); and
2121 WHEREAS, Ms. Wilson began her professional journey with the State of Tennessee at
2222 the Department of Labor and Workforce Development and later served with distinction at the
2323 Department of Commerce and Insurance; and
2424 WHEREAS, a proud third-generation graduate of Tennessee State University, Seanne
2525 Wilson returned to her beloved alma mater to begin a new and impactful chapter, initially
2626 serving in the Office of the President as executive assistant to Dr. Melvin N. Johnson, the
2727 seventh president of TSU, and subsequently working under interim president Dr. Portia Holmes
2828 Shields, who appointed Ms. Wilson to the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving; and
2929 WHEREAS, she was later promoted by TSU's eighth president, Dr. Glenda Glover, to
3030 serve as director of the TSU Women's Center within the Division of Student Affairs, a role in
3131 which she flourished for more than a decade, empowering, uplifting, and transforming the lives
3232 of young women on campus; and
3333 WHEREAS, under her leadership, the TSU Women's Center became a beacon of
3434 support and advancement for women, and Ms. Wilson led the celebrated Women of Legend and
3535 Merit Awards Dinner for ten years, an event that honored outstanding women and inspired
3636 countless students; and

4141 WHEREAS, Seanne Wilson's tireless commitment extended beyond the Women's
4242 Center, as she contributed meaningfully to the success of the TSU Homecoming Committee
4343 and Gala, and cultivated strong relationships with colleagues, students, alumni, and community
4444 leaders who became lifelong friends and partners; and
4545 WHEREAS, Ms. Wilson is also an accomplished author and advocate for empowering
4646 individuals to heal from trauma, particularly through her books Overcoming Me and Overcoming
4747 You, as well as her podcast and speaking engagements at conferences, churches, and schools;
4848 and
4949 WHEREAS, her unwavering commitment to supporting others on their journey to
5050 success, her focus on resilience, and her belief that it is never too late to transform one's life
5151 have inspired countless individuals to overcome challenges and embrace new opportunities;

5353 WHEREAS, Seanne Wilson's distinguished career in public service and higher education
5454 exemplifies her dedication to improving the lives of all Tennesseans, and she should be
5555 specially recognized; now, therefore,
5656 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
5757 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
5858 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we hereby recognize and commend Seanne Wilson
5959 for her honorable and astute service to the people of Tennessee, extending our heartfelt wishes
6060 for a happy and fulfilling retirement and every continued success in her future endeavors.
6161 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
6262 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
6363 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
