16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Republican Women's clubs were formed many years before women |
---|
17 | 17 | | received the right to vote; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, the Republican Platform of 1872 stated that The Republican Party is mindful |
---|
19 | 19 | | of its obligation to the loyal women of America for their noble devotion to the cause of freedom; |

21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, in 1938, Marion Martin, assistant chairman to the Republican National |
---|
22 | 22 | | Committee, called a meeting at the Palmer House in Chicago, Illinois, to organize Republican |
---|
23 | 23 | | Women's clubs into a National Organization; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, the National Federation of Republican Women's Clubs adopted rules, one |
---|
25 | 25 | | of which was "to foster and encourage loyalty to the Republican Party and the ideals for which it |
---|
26 | 26 | | stands"; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, at the time of the organization's founding, there were only six Republican |
---|
28 | 28 | | governors, eighty-nine Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives, and sixteen |
---|
29 | 29 | | Republicans in the U.S. Senate; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, in its early days, the organization was a lobbying group that continued to |
---|
31 | 31 | | grow, eventually changing its name to the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) in |
---|
32 | 32 | | 1953; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, the NFRW, once an auxiliary of the Republican National Committee, |
---|
34 | 34 | | became financially and organizationally independent in 1952; and |

39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, in 1955, the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women was chartered, |

41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Sharon Boreing is serving as president on this seventieth anniversary; and |

42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women has clubs across the |

43 | 43 | | State that, in the seventy years since the state organization's founding, have taken part in |
---|
44 | 44 | | programs to help in their communities, including those focused on caring for America, literacy, |
---|
45 | 45 | | Americanism, armed services, and scholarship programs for women; most importantly, the |
---|
46 | 46 | | organization has earned hundreds of thousands of campaign volunteer hours and received |
---|
47 | 47 | | dozens of NFRW Achievement Awards in these areas; and |
---|
48 | 48 | | WHEREAS, the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women is celebrating its |
---|
49 | 49 | | seventieth year while still supporting candidates through the Iris Fund PAC, still campaigning for |
---|
50 | 50 | | and electing Republicans in Tennessee, and still contributing to the success of growing a super |
---|
51 | 51 | | majority; now, therefore, |

52 | 52 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH |

53 | 53 | | GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF |

54 | 54 | | REPRESENTATIVES CONCURR ING, that we recognize the Tennessee Federation of |

55 | 55 | | Republican Women on the occasion of the organization's seventieth anniversary, extending our |

56 | 56 | | best wishes for every future success. |

57 | 57 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared |
