1212 A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Beverly Anne Hackett
1313 Farrell of West Knoxville.

1515 WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
1616 the passing of Beverly Anne Hackett Farrell; and
1717 WHEREAS, Beverly Farrell was an exemplary individual and consummate professional
1818 who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for her fellow citizens in numerous
1919 capacities; and
2020 WHEREAS, a native of Moberly, Missouri, Beverly Anne Farrell relocated to Kingston,
2121 where she was a faithful member of Morrison Hill Christian Church; and
2222 WHEREAS, Beverly Farrell served with acumen and alacrity as a systems engineer for
2323 IBM for ten years and continued as a network systems manager, with state and government
2424 accounts, during her twenty-eight-year career with IBM; and
2525 WHEREAS, after leaving IBM, she joined her husband, Rusty Farrell, as a licensed
2626 insurance agent and an investment advisor until suffering a stroke in 2024; and
2727 WHEREAS, a gracious woman who enjoyed a variety of hobbies, she was a talented
2828 seamstress and did cross stitching and embroidery; she and her husband were both avid UT
2929 Lady Vol volleyball supporters and created a player scholarship; and
3030 WHEREAS, her father, John Hackett, was a long-time trustee of Johnson University,
3131 formerly Johnson Bible College, and in honor of her parents, she supported a room and board
3232 scholarship for the institution; she was also an avid supporter of St. Jude Hospital and the
3333 University of Tennessee Speech and Audiology Department; and
3434 WHEREAS, Mrs. Farrell was also deeply devoted to her family, and she always
3535 endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order; and

4040 WHEREAS, Mrs. Farrell enjoyed the loving companionship of her devoted husband of
4141 forty-five years, James "Rusty" Farrell, and was the proud mother of Stephen Benson "Ben"
4242 (Barbara) Farrell; and
4343 WHEREAS, she will be sadly mourned but fondly remembered by her sisters, Benita
4444 (Mark) Albert and Bonnie (Larry) Fagan; brother, William (Sandy) Hackett; sister-in-law, Laurie
4545 (Dave) Petty; seven nieces and one nephew; and special friends, Diana Hodges, Sarah Makin,
4646 Pat Adams, Senator Becky Massey, and Cathy Turner; and
4747 WHEREAS, Mrs. Farrell was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah Louise McCorkle
4848 and John Benson Hackett; and
4949 WHEREAS, Beverly Farrell leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in
5050 public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all her chosen
5151 endeavors; and
5252 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
5353 remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore,
5454 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
5555 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
5656 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Beverly Anne Hackett
5757 Farrell, reflecting fondly upon her impeccable character and her stalwart commitment to living
5858 the examined life with courage and conviction.
5959 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences
6060 to the family of Mrs. Farrell.
6161 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
6262 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
6363 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
6464 without House or Senate designation.
