15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should specially |
---|
16 | 16 | | recognize those estimable public servants who work to improve the quality of life for their fellow |
---|
17 | 17 | | citizens through their involvement in the political process; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Dr. William Turney Williams has proven himself to be an invaluable asset to |
---|
19 | 19 | | the Washington County Republican Party, which he has ably and devotedly served as |
---|
20 | 20 | | chairman; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mr. Williams grew up as one of six |
---|
22 | 22 | | children in a military family; his father, a Colonel in the Air Force, served as Commander of the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Office of Aerospace Research in Belgium; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, while attending high school in Belgium, Turney Williams earned a place on |
---|
25 | 25 | | the European All-Star tennis team; he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from |
---|
26 | 26 | | Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and his Master of Science degree in Bio- |
---|
27 | 27 | | Chemistry from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, choosing to devote his life to medicine, he earned his Bachelor of Science |
---|
29 | 29 | | degree in Medicine from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine and his Doctor of |
---|
30 | 30 | | Medicine degree at the prestigious Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, |
---|
31 | 31 | | Missouri, graduating in 1979; and |

32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, in 1988, Dr. Williams moved to Johnson City to begin his medical career at |

33 | 33 | | Johnson City Medical Center; he later joined Anesthesia Associates before founding Pain |

34 | 34 | | Medicine Associates, spending decades helping community members manage chronic pain and |
---|

41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Turney Williams has been a |

42 | 42 | | pillar of civic engagement, serving as Chairman of the Washington County Republican Party for |
---|
43 | 43 | | a number of years and remaining active in local politics; and |

44 | 44 | | WHEREAS, his commitment to service extends to animal welfare through his volunteer |
---|
45 | 45 | | work with and donations to the Appalachian Highlands Humane Society and Washington |
---|
46 | 46 | | County Animal Shelter; and |
---|
47 | 47 | | WHEREAS, passionate about the outdoors, Dr. Williams is an accomplished |
---|
48 | 48 | | mountaineer, having conquered Mt. Rainier twice, summited Mt. Whitney, and tackled |
---|
49 | 49 | | numerous "fourteeners" in Colorado; and |
---|
50 | 50 | | WHEREAS, his love for nature manifests in various activities, including fishing, skiing, |
---|
51 | 51 | | hiking, backpacking, camping, mountain biking, and kayaking; when not exploring the |
---|
52 | 52 | | wilderness or taking care of animals, Dr. Turney Williams can usually be found immersed in a |
---|
53 | 53 | | history book; and |
---|
54 | 54 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Williams is wholly committed to the noble precepts of public service and |
---|
55 | 55 | | political engagement that have earned Tennessee recognition as the Volunteer State, and he |
---|
56 | 56 | | should be specially recognized; now, therefore, |

57 | 57 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH |
