1212 A RESOLUTION to honor Dr. William Turney Williams, Chairman
1313 of the Washington County Republican Party.

1515 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should specially
1616 recognize those estimable public servants who work to improve the quality of life for their fellow
1717 citizens through their involvement in the political process; and
1818 WHEREAS, Dr. William Turney Williams has proven himself to be an invaluable asset to
1919 the Washington County Republican Party, which he has ably and devotedly served as
2020 chairman; and
2121 WHEREAS, a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mr. Williams grew up as one of six
2222 children in a military family; his father, a Colonel in the Air Force, served as Commander of the
2323 Office of Aerospace Research in Belgium; and
2424 WHEREAS, while attending high school in Belgium, Turney Williams earned a place on
2525 the European All-Star tennis team; he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from
2626 Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and his Master of Science degree in Bio-
2727 Chemistry from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln; and
2828 WHEREAS, choosing to devote his life to medicine, he earned his Bachelor of Science
2929 degree in Medicine from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine and his Doctor of
3030 Medicine degree at the prestigious Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis,
3131 Missouri, graduating in 1979; and
3232 WHEREAS, in 1988, Dr. Williams moved to Johnson City to begin his medical career at
3333 Johnson City Medical Center; he later joined Anesthesia Associates before founding Pain
3434 Medicine Associates, spending decades helping community members manage chronic pain and

3939 improve their quality of life; he only recently retired from practicing medicine, after a
4040 distinguished thirty-seven-year career as a physician in East Tennessee; and
4141 WHEREAS, beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Turney Williams has been a
4242 pillar of civic engagement, serving as Chairman of the Washington County Republican Party for
4343 a number of years and remaining active in local politics; and
4444 WHEREAS, his commitment to service extends to animal welfare through his volunteer
4545 work with and donations to the Appalachian Highlands Humane Society and Washington
4646 County Animal Shelter; and
4747 WHEREAS, passionate about the outdoors, Dr. Williams is an accomplished
4848 mountaineer, having conquered Mt. Rainier twice, summited Mt. Whitney, and tackled
4949 numerous "fourteeners" in Colorado; and
5050 WHEREAS, his love for nature manifests in various activities, including fishing, skiing,
5151 hiking, backpacking, camping, mountain biking, and kayaking; when not exploring the
5252 wilderness or taking care of animals, Dr. Turney Williams can usually be found immersed in a
5353 history book; and
5454 WHEREAS, Dr. Williams is wholly committed to the noble precepts of public service and
5555 political engagement that have earned Tennessee recognition as the Volunteer State, and he
5656 should be specially recognized; now, therefore,
5757 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
5858 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
5959 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and congratulate Washington County
6060 Republican Party Chairman Dr. William Turney Williams, salute his unswerving commitment to
6161 living the examined life with courage and conviction, and extend to him our best wishes for
6262 much continued success and happiness.
