1212 A RESOLUTION to recognize and honor The Knoxville Barristers,
1313 2025 Business Award recipient of the John J.
1414 Duncan Sr. Award for Senior Advocacy.

1616 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should salute those
1717 citizens who, through their extraordinary efforts, have distinguished themselves as community
1818 leaders of whom we can all be proud; and
1919 WHEREAS, one such exemplary organization of concerned citizens is The Knoxville
2020 Barristers, which was recently named the 2025 Business Award recipient of the John J. Duncan
2121 Sr. Award for Senior Advocacy; and
2222 WHEREAS, the John J. Duncan Sr. Award for Senior Advocacy was created to honor
2323 those who steadfastly work to improve the lives of seniors in the Knoxville community, as the
2424 award's namesake did throughout his career; recipients are professionals, community members,
2525 and business owners who have been nominated in recognition of their tireless efforts on behalf
2626 of seniors; and
2727 WHEREAS, The Knoxville Barristers is the Young Lawyers Division of the Knoxville Bar
2828 Association, comprised primarily of attorneys under the age of thirty-six or in their first five years
2929 of practice; however, participation in the Barristers' public service projects is open to legal
3030 professionals of all ages and roles, including lawyers, paralegals, legal assistants, and even
3131 judges; and
3232 WHEREAS, the members of The Knoxville Barristers have demonstrated over twenty-
3333 five years of unwavering dedication to serving homebound seniors in Knox County through its
3434 partnership with CAC Mobile Meals; and

3939 WHEREAS, in the late 1990s, The Barristers became involved with Mobile Meals when
4040 then President Saja Hoffpauir and other members formed the organization's Hunger and
4141 Poverty Relief Committee and took on the role of coordinating the Barristers' various community
4242 service efforts; and
4343 WHEREAS, one of the very first projects coordinated by the Hunger and Poverty Relief
4444 Committee was providing volunteers once a month to deliver Mobile Meals to homebound
4545 seniors in Knox County; and
4646 WHEREAS, over time, the Mobile Meals project became increasingly popular among
4747 The Barristers' membership and expanded to also include older members of the Knoxville bar;
4848 attorneys from every practice area and firms of every size began participating, along with
4949 paralegals and even several judges; and
5050 WHEREAS, since its inception, the project has grown from the original once-a-month
5151 undertaking to an expanded three or four days per week schedule, with the current partnership
5252 led by Nic Arning of Wolf, McClane, Bright, Allen, & Carpenter, PLLC; and
5353 WHEREAS, The Barristers members have delivered meals approximately 3,000 times,
5454 completing an astounding 40,000 individual deliveries; by serving the same route each time,
5555 volunteers have built meaningful relationships with the seniors they serve, providing not only
5656 nutritional support but also vital safety checks and social connection; and
5757 WHEREAS, The Knoxville Barristers' twenty-five years of impactful volunteerism goes
5858 beyond the delivery of meals, as it represents a steadfast commitment to the well-being and
5959 dignity of Knox County's aging population; the Barristers' dedication to Mobile Meals sets an
6060 exceptional example of partnership and volunteerism, and the division's leadership inspires
6161 others in the community and underscores the importance of sustained, compassionate action to
6262 address the needs of older adults; and

6767 WHEREAS, the members of The Knoxville Barristers have worked tirelessly to improve
6868 their community, and it is most fitting that they be honored on this special occasion; now,
6969 therefore,
7070 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
7171 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
7272 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we recognize and honor The Knoxville Barristers,
7373 the Young Lawyers Division of the Knoxville Bar Association, the 2025 Business Award
7474 recipient of the John J. Duncan Sr. Award for Senior Advocacy, extending our best wishes for
7575 continued success in all further endeavors to compassionately and devotedly serve others.
7676 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
7777 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
7878 the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
