12	12	A RESOLUTION to honor and recognize Nashville Severe
13	13	Weather for its dedicated service in providing
14	14	timely and accurate weather information to the
15	15	communities of Davidson and Williamson
16	16	counties.

18	18	WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly are proud to recognize those
19	19	organizations that have demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the safety and well-being of
20	20	the citizens of Tennessee; and
21	21	WHEREAS, one such esteemed organization is Nashville Severe Weather, which
22	22	initially provided localized weather updates via Twitter to inform friends and neighbors in
23	23	Nashville and Franklin; and
24	24	WHEREAS, founded in 2010 by David Drobny, Nashville Severe Weather expanded its
25	25	team in November 2011 with the addition of Will Minkoff, and grew again in September 2015
26	26	when Andrew Leeper joined, forming a dedicated trio focused on delivering precise local
27	27	weather information to the public; and
28	28	WHEREAS, providing information specifically tailored for Davidson and Williamson
29	29	counties, Nashville Severe Weather has been instrumental in disseminating critical weather
30	30	forecasts, watches, warnings, and real-time commentary on severe weather events, including
31	31	hail, severe winds, lightning, tornadoes, and snow; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Nashville Severe Weather collaborates closely with the National Weather
33	33	Service (NWS) as partners, coordinating and relaying real-time severe and winter weather
34	34	reports through the #tSpotter initiative, thereby enhancing the accuracy and timeliness of
35	35	weather warnings and advisories; and

40	40	WHEREAS, in recognition of its outstanding public service, Nashville Severe Weather
41	41	and the #tSpotter initiative were honored with the National Weather Association's Walter J.
42	42	Bennett Public Service Award in 2016, underscoring their significant contributions to the field of
43	43	meteorology and community safety; and
44	44	WHEREAS, Nashville Severe Weather has also established an intern program, which
45	45	commenced on May 2, 2013, with Yasser Kishk serving as the inaugural intern; the program
46	46	provides aspiring meteorologists with valuable experience and contributes to the organization's
47	47	mission of delivering high-quality weather information; and
48	48	WHEREAS, the dedication and passion of David Drobny, Will Minkoff, and Andrew
49	49	Leeper, who reside and work within the communities they serve, have transformed a personal
50	50	hobby into an invaluable public resource, exemplifying community service and the volunteer
51	51	spirit; and
52	52	WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that we recognize Nashville Severe Weather for its
53	53	unwavering commitment to providing accurate and timely weather information, thereby
54	54	safeguarding the lives and property of Tennesseans; now, therefore,
55	55	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
56	56	GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HO USE OF
57	57	REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Nashville Severe Weather
58	58	for its exceptional service to the communities of Davidson and Williamson counties, extend our
59	59	deepest gratitude for its contributions to public safety, and offer our best wishes for its continued
60	60	success.
61	61	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
62	62	for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
