13	13	A RESOLUTION to honor and commend the Upperman Bees
14	14	boys' basketball team upon winning the 2025
15	15	TSSAA Division I, Class 3A state championship.

17	17	WHEREAS, it is fitting that this General Assembly should salute those student athletes
18	18	who, through their extraordinary efforts, have distinguished themselves as true champions of
19	19	whom we can all be proud; and
20	20	WHEREAS, one such exemplary group of lads is the Bees boys' basketball team of
21	21	Upperman High School in Baxter, whose members have proven themselves to be the fiercest of
22	22	competitors and truly worthy of admiration by winning the 2025 TSSAA Division I, Class 3A
23	23	state championship, the first such title in school history after eight previous state tournament
24	24	appearances; and
25	25	WHEREAS, entering regional competition as District 7 champions, Upperman defeated
26	26	Lawrence County 58-53 in the quarterfinals and crushed Giles County 54-33 in their semifinal
27	27	match-up before falling in the regional final; and
28	28	WHEREAS, quickly rebounding in the sectional round, the Bees easily buzzed by
29	29	Heritage 51-33 to punch their ticket for the Big Dance; and
30	30	WHEREAS, poised for ultimate victory in the Class 3A state tournament at MTSU's
31	31	Murphy Center, Upperman stung Hume-Fogg 54-40 in the quarterfinals and bested Greeneville
32	32	55-47 in the semifinal round to advance; and
33	33	WHEREAS, in the final game, the Bees avenged their sole loss in regional play by
34	34	taming the Tullahoma Wildcats 65-55 to claim the Gold Ball trophy that signifies a state
35	35	champion and finish the 2024-2025 campaign with an outstanding 32-3 record; and

40	40	WHEREAS, the following young men made sweet championship honey as the Bees
41	41	from Baxter: the Class 3A state tournament's Most Valuable Player, Ty Cobb; All-Tournament
42	42	team selections, Bronzden Chaffin and Evan Huddleston; and contributing players, Jack
43	43	Torrence, Branson Turnbow, Collier Bush, Colton Johnson, and John Sissom; and
44	44	WHEREAS, Upperman's superb performance would not have been possible without the
45	45	expert guidance of Head Coach Bobby McWilliams and his assistant coaches, Alan Asberry,
46	46	Brian Johnson, and Austyn McWilliams, and the unfailing support of the players' families, their
47	47	fans, and the close-knit Baxter community; and
48	48	WHEREAS, the members of the Upperman boys' basketball team epitomize all that is
49	49	good in today's student athletes, as they have achieved a premier level of success in
50	50	competition while exhibiting the highest degree of character in all aspects of life; and
51	51	WHEREAS, the perseverance, determination, work ethic, and talent of this group of
52	52	young men not only made possible a championship but also surely bode well for their future
53	53	success; and
54	54	WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly find it appropriate to acknowledge
55	55	and applaud the Upperman Bees for their outstanding season on the hardwood; now, therefore,
56	56	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
57	57	GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
58	58	REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and commend the Upperman Bees boys'
59	59	basketball team upon winning the 2025 TSSAA Division I, Class 3A state championship and
60	60	extend to them our best wishes for every continued success in all their future endeavors.
61	61	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
62	62	for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
63	63	the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear
64	64	without House or Senate designation.
