A RESOLUTION to recognize the ninetieth anniversary of the 
partnership between the Tennessee Valley 
Authority and Memphis Light, Gas and Water. 
 
 WHEREAS, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was created in 1933 as a federally 
owned corporation to provide electricity generation, economic development, and environmental 
stewardship for the Tennessee Valley region, including Memphis and Shelby County; and 
 WHEREAS, Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW), founded in 1939, became TVA's 
largest local power company partner, working collaboratively to ensure reliable, affordable, and 
sustainable energy for the citizens and businesses of Memphis; and 
 WHEREAS, for ninety years, the partnership between TVA and MLGW has been a 
cornerstone of economic development and community advancement, providing energy solutions 
that have fueled Memphis' growth into one of the most vibrant cities in the nation; and 
 WHEREAS, TVA has not only delivered affordable electricity to Memphis but also 
invested in initiatives that prioritize workforce development, energy efficiency, and community 
enrichment, thereby enhancing the quality of life for all residents; and 
 WHEREAS, this enduring collaboration has demonstrated exceptional resilience and 
innovation, serving as a model for public-private partnerships and continuing to address the 
evolving energy needs of the region; and 
 WHEREAS, as we celebrate the ninetieth anniversary of TVA's transformative 
contributions to Memphis through its partnership with MLGW, we honor the legacy of service, 
commitment, and collaboration that has defined this relationship; now, therefore, 
 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH 
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we commemorate the ninetie th

anniversary of the partnership between the Tennessee Valley Authority and Memphis Light, Gas 
and Water, expressing our profound gratitude for their continued commitment to the people of 
Memphis and Shelby County and encouraging all citizens to join in the celebration of this 
historic milestone and the critical role the partnership has played in empowering the Memphis 
and Shelby County community and thereby ensuring a sustainable future. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared 
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
