1212 A RESOLUTION to honor TaJuan Stout Mitchell in celebration of
1313 Women's Day on the Hill.

1515 WHEREAS, Women's Day on the Hill is a time to honor the achievements of those
1616 Tennessee women who have paved the way for every person to have the opportunity to pursue
1717 the American dream; and
1818 WHEREAS, the Volunteer State is proud to be the home of the awe-inspiring TaJuan
1919 Stout Mitchell, the founder of TaJuan Stout Mitchell Consulting, a trained social worker, the
2020 former Community Relations Director and Intergovernmental Administrator for the City of
2121 Memphis, and the retired Executive Director of the American Cancer Society; and
2222 WHEREAS, TaJuan Mitchell served on the Memphis City School Board for nine years
2323 and the Memphis City Council for eight years and was elected by her colleagues to serve as
2424 chair of both bodies; her contributions over the years include leading the development of the
2525 Whitehaven Library, Whitehaven Visitor Center, and eight new schools in District 3; and
2626 WHEREAS, TaJuan Mitchell worked as a State Protective Services officer for the
2727 protection of children from abuse and neglect, as the Director of Adoptions for St. Peter's Home
2828 for Children, and as the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters, which annually bestows
2929 the TaJuan Stout Mitchell Employee Service Award in honor of her legacy; and
3030 WHEREAS, she has further served her community as a member of the Board of
3131 Directors for the Women's Foundation of Greater Memphis, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha
3232 Sorority, Inc., and Chair of United Way's Women United, where she led a project that provided
3333 more than $2,000 in merchandise for first-generation college students moving into dorm rooms;

3939 WHEREAS, in saluting Ms. Mitchell on this special occasion, let us remember that when
4040 women succeed, America succeeds, as does Tennessee; now, therefore,
4141 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HU NDRED FOURTEENTH
4242 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we hereby honor and commend
4343 TaJuan Stout Mitchell on her many contributions to the State of Tennessee as we celebrate
4444 Women's Day on the Hill.
4545 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
4646 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
