1212 A RESOLUTION to honor and commend Kameron Whalum of
1313 Memphis.

1515 WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should salute those citizens who, through their
1616 extraordinary efforts and artistic contributions, have distinguished themselves as community
1717 leaders of whom we can all be proud; and
1818 WHEREAS, one such noteworthy person is Kameron Whalum of Memphis, a trombonist,
1919 singer, and permanent member of prominent R&B group Silk Sonic, led by singer Bruno Mars
2020 and rapper Anderson .Paak; and
2121 WHEREAS, Kameron Whalum hails from the highly respected Whalum family of
2222 Memphis, the members of which, over four generations, have distinguished themselves time
2323 and again in the fields of music, worship, and public service; and
2424 WHEREAS, Kameron Whalum attended Morehouse College, the University of Memphis,
2525 and the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City, New York, and at each
2626 institution, he further honed his craft through consistent playing; and
2727 WHEREAS, drawing from the varied streams of Memphis music, Mr. Whalum commits
2828 himself to elevating, through his trained art and profound skill, the storied musical traditions that
2929 have been handed on to him by his family and community; and
3030 WHEREAS, through his work as a Berklee City Music Ambassador, Mr. Whalum is now
3131 training the upcoming generation of creatives to look within themselves and find the passion that
3232 propels and produces the greatest musicians, and his example is a living testament to the
3333 wonderful effects of practiced mastery and determined vision; and
3434 WHEREAS, Mr. Whalum epitomizes the spirit and commitment to family and community
3535 that are characteristic of a true Tennessean; and

4040 WHEREAS, it is most fitting that we should honor the exceptional service to music of
4141 Kameron Whalum; now, therefore,
4242 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
4343 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we honor Kameron Whalum,
4444 reflecting on his contributions to music and his enduring legacy of excellence and creativity.
4545 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared
4646 for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
