1212 A RESOLUTION to honor and commend Kyle Whalum of
1313 Memphis.

1515 WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should salute those citizens who, through their
1616 extraordinary efforts and artistic contributions, have distinguished themselves as community
1717 leaders of whom we can all be proud; and
1818 WHEREAS, one such noteworthy person is Kyle Whalum, a talented bass player,
1919 songwriter, singer, and producer who has earned recognition and acclaim through his work with
2020 renowned artists such as Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson; and
2121 WHEREAS, Mr. Whalum hails from the highly respected Whalum family of Memphis, the
2222 members of which, over four generations, have distinguished themselves time and again in the
2323 fields of music, worship, and public service; and
2424 WHEREAS, Kyle Whalum is the son of the acclaimed saxophonist Kirk Whalum, cousin
2525 to saxophone player Kenneth Whalum, and nephew to jazz singer/songwriter Kevin Whalum,
2626 and he has continued the family legacy of excellence in music; and
2727 WHEREAS, Mr. Whalum epitomizes the spirit and commitment to family and community
2828 that are characteristic of a true Tennessean; and
2929 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that we acknowledge and applaud Kyle Whalum for his
3030 commitment to excellence in music and beyond; now, therefore,
3131 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
3232 GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we honor and commend Kyle
3333 Whalum for his indelible contributions to music and extend to him our best wishes for much
3434 continued success.
