A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate Jasmine Smith upon 
being named the statewide runner-up in the 9-12 
grade category of the 2024 Tennessee 
Secretary of State's civics essay contest. 
 
 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this legislative body should pay tribute to 
those civic-minded students who, through their natural talents and unflagging commitment to 
academic excellence, have distinguished themselves in the classroom and their community; and 
 WHEREAS, Jasmine Smith is one such exceptional student, who was recently named 
the statewide runner-up in the 9-12 grade category of the 2024 Tennessee Secretary of State's 
civics essay contest; and 
 WHEREAS, the theme for the essay contest was "Why Trusted Sources Matter"; 
through participation in the contest, students became better informed of their important roles as 
citizens of the great State of Tennessee; and 
 WHEREAS, a student at Knoxville Montessori School, where she is highly regarded by 
her peers, Jasmine Smith has achieved academic success and has readied herself to become 
an active and conscientious citizen; and 
 WHEREAS, Ms. Smith is a repeat winner in the statewide civics essay contest, having 
previously placed first in the 6-8 grade category in 2023; and 
 WHEREAS, her display of intellectual aptitude and ambition surely bodes well for her 
future success; and 
 WHEREAS, Jasmine Smith's noteworthy achievement is a tremendous source of pride 
for her family, her school, and her community; and 
 WHEREAS, Ms. Smith's dedication to excellence is clearly deserving of our respect, 
admiration, and commendation; now, therefore,

 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH 
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we honor and congratulate 
Jasmine Smith upon being named the statewide runner-up in the 9-12 grade category of the 
2024 Tennessee Secretary of State's civics essay contest and extend to her our best wishes for 
every continued success and happiness. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared 
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
