55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the development, rehabilitation, or expansion of
88 affordable housing in a public improvement district established by
99 a county or municipality.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 372.003(b), Local Government Code, is
1212 amended to read as follows:
1313 (b) A public improvement project may include:
1414 (1) landscaping;
1515 (2) erection of fountains, distinctive lighting, and
1616 signs;
1717 (3) acquiring, constructing, improving, widening,
1818 narrowing, closing, or rerouting of sidewalks or of streets, any
1919 other roadways, or their rights-of-way;
2020 (4) construction or improvement of pedestrian malls;
2121 (5) acquisition and installation of pieces of art;
2222 (6) acquisition, construction, or improvement of
2323 libraries;
2424 (7) acquisition, construction, or improvement of
2525 off-street parking facilities;
2626 (8) acquisition, construction, improvement, or
2727 rerouting of mass transportation facilities;
2828 (9) acquisition, construction, or improvement of
2929 water, wastewater, or drainage facilities or improvements;
3030 (10) the establishment or improvement of parks;
3131 (11) projects similar to those listed in Subdivisions
3232 (1)-(10);
3333 (12) acquisition, by purchase or otherwise, of real
3434 property in connection with an authorized improvement;
3535 (13) special supplemental services for improvement
3636 and promotion of the district, including services relating to
3737 advertising, promotion, health and sanitation, water and
3838 wastewater, public safety, security, business recruitment,
3939 development, recreation, and cultural enhancement; [and]
4040 (14) payment of expenses incurred in the
4141 establishment, administration, and operation of the district; and
4242 (15) the development, rehabilitation, or expansion of
4343 affordable housing.
4444 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
4545 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
4646 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
4747 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4848 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
