55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the powers of the Credit Union Commission.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 15.402(b-1), Finance Code, is amended to
1010 read as follows:
1111 (b-1) In adopting rules under this section, the commission
1212 shall consider the need to:
1313 (1) promote a stable credit union environment;
1414 (2) provide credit union members with convenient,
1515 safe, and competitive services;
1616 (3) preserve and promote the competitive parity of
1717 credit unions with regard to other depository institutions
1818 consistent with the safety and soundness of credit unions; [and]
1919 (4) promote or encourage economic development in this
2020 state; and
2121 (5) promote or encourage credit unions to make
2222 low-cost, short-term consumer loans available to the public.
2323 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2424 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2525 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2626 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2727 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
