88 AN ACT
99 relating to persons authorized to make payroll deductions for
1010 county employees.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Section 155.021, Local Government Code, is
1313 amended to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 155.021. DEDUCTIONS ENUMERATED. The county
1515 treasurer, a county employee or office assigned by the
1616 commissioners court to prepare payroll, or, if another officer is
1717 specified by law, that other officer shall make the deductions
1818 from, or take other similar actions with regard to, the
1919 compensation of county employees as required:
2020 (1) for employee contributions for coverage under the
2121 federal social security program in accordance with Chapter 606,
2222 Government Code;
2323 (2) for the purchase of annuities or for contributions
2424 to investments for employees in accordance with Chapter 22, Acts of
2525 the 57th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, 1962 (Article 6228a-5,
2626 Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes);
2727 (3) for the purchase of United States savings bonds
2828 for employees in accordance with Chapter 608 [606], Government
2929 Code;
3030 (4) for employee participation in a deferred
3131 compensation plan in accordance with Chapter 609, Government Code;
3232 or
3333 (5) for employee contributions to a retirement system
3434 in accordance with Section 845.403, Government Code.
3535 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3636 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3737 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3838 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3939 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
