| 8 | 8 | | information on districts' Internet websites. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 44, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Sections 44.0035 and 44.0051 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 44.0035. POSTING OF DISTRICT GENERAL LEDGER. (a) A |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | school district shall post on the district's Internet website the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | district's general ledger statement containing all asset, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | liability, capital, income, and expense accounts. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (b) The district shall: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (1) post an updated general ledger statement at least |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | once each calendar quarter; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (2) maintain each general ledger quarterly statement |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | until the third anniversary of the date of that statement. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (c) The general ledger must be prepared according to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | generally accepted accounting principles. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Sec. 44.0051. POSTING OF ADOPTED BUDGET. (a) On final |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | approval of the budget by the board of trustees, the school district |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | shall post on the district's Internet website a copy of the budget |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | adopted by the board of trustees. The district's Internet website |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | must prominently display the electronic link to the adopted budget. |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (b) The district shall maintain the adopted budget on the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | district's Internet website until the third anniversary of the date |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the budget was adopted. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
