99 relating to donations of juror reimbursements.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 61.003(a), Government Code, as amended
1212 by Chapters 661 (H.B. 1204) and 1378 (S.B. 560), Acts of the 80th
1313 Legislature, Regular Session, 2007, is reenacted and amended to
1414 read as follows:
1515 (a) Each person who reports for jury service shall be
1616 personally provided a form letter that when signed by the person
1717 directs the county treasurer to donate all, or a specific amount
1818 designated by the person, of the person's daily reimbursement under
1919 this chapter to:
2020 (1) the compensation to victims of crime fund under
2121 Subchapter B, Chapter 56, Code of Criminal Procedure;
2222 (2) the child welfare and child protective services
2323 board of the county appointed under Section 264.005, Family Code,
2424 that serves abused and neglected children;
2525 (3) any program selected by the commissioners court
2626 that is operated by a public or private nonprofit organization and
2727 that provides shelter and services to victims of family violence;
2828 or
2929 (4) any other program approved by the commissioners
3030 court of the county, including a program established under Article
3131 56.04(f), Code of Criminal Procedure, that offers psychological
3232 counseling to jurors in criminal cases involving graphic evidence
3333 or testimony.
3434 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
3535 to donations from jurors appearing in response to a summons issued
3636 on or after the effective date of this Act.
3737 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
