11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is | |
13 | 13 | amended by adding Section 662.056 to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 662.056. CHARLES BELLINGER STEWART DAY. (a) February 6 | |
15 | 15 | is Charles Bellinger Stewart Day in honor of Charles Bellinger | |
16 | 16 | Stewart, Texas statesman and signer of the Texas Declaration of | |
17 | 17 | Independence. | |
18 | 18 | (b) Charles Bellinger Stewart Day may be regularly observed | |
19 | 19 | by appropriate and patriotic programs in the public schools and | |
20 | 20 | other places to properly commemorate his life and achievements and | |
21 | 21 | to inspire a greater appreciation for the history of the pioneers | |
22 | 22 | and leaders of this state. | |
23 | 23 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
24 | 24 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
25 | 25 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
26 | 26 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
27 | 27 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
