 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to monitoring physicians' compliance with continuing
 medical education requirements.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1. Section 156.051(a), Occupations Code, is amended
 to read as follows:
 (a) The board by rule shall adopt, monitor, and enforce a
 reporting program for the continuing medical education of license
 holders. The board shall adopt and administer rules that:
 (1) establish the number of hours of continuing
 medical education the board determines appropriate as a
 prerequisite to the registration of a license under this subtitle;
 (2) require at least one-half of the hours of
 continuing medical education established under Subdivision (1) to
 be board approved; and
 (3) adopt a process that:
 (A) requires [to assess a] license holders to
 submit documentation to the board verifying compliance with
 [holder's participation in] continuing medical education
 requirements; and
 (B)  monitors each license holder's annual
 compliance with continuing medical education requirements
 [courses].
 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
