66 AN ACT
77 relating to monitoring physicians' compliance with continuing
88 medical education requirements.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 156.051(a), Occupations Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (a) The board by rule shall adopt, monitor, and enforce a
1313 reporting program for the continuing medical education of license
1414 holders. The board shall adopt and administer rules that:
1515 (1) establish the number of hours of continuing
1616 medical education the board determines appropriate as a
1717 prerequisite to the registration of a license under this subtitle;
1818 (2) require at least one-half of the hours of
1919 continuing medical education established under Subdivision (1) to
2020 be board approved; and
2121 (3) adopt a process that:
2222 (A) requires [to assess a] license holders to
2323 submit documentation to the board verifying compliance with
2424 [holder's participation in] continuing medical education
2525 requirements; and
2626 (B) monitors each license holder's annual
2727 compliance with continuing medical education requirements
2828 [courses].
2929 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
