| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 156.051(a), Occupations Code, is amended | |
| 11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) The board by rule shall adopt, monitor, and enforce a | |
| 13 | 13 | reporting program for the continuing medical education of license | |
| 14 | 14 | holders. The board shall adopt and administer rules that: | |
| 15 | 15 | (1) establish the number of hours of continuing | |
| 16 | 16 | medical education the board determines appropriate as a | |
| 17 | 17 | prerequisite to the registration of a license under this subtitle; | |
| 18 | 18 | (2) require at least one-half of the hours of | |
| 19 | 19 | continuing medical education established under Subdivision (1) to | |
| 20 | 20 | be board approved; and | |
| 21 | 21 | (3) adopt a process that: | |
| 22 | 22 | (A) requires [to assess a] license holders to | |
| 23 | 23 | submit documentation to the board verifying compliance with | |
| 24 | 24 | [holder's participation in] continuing medical education | |
| 25 | 25 | requirements; and | |
| 26 | 26 | (B) monitors each license holder's annual | |
| 27 | 27 | compliance with continuing medical education requirements | |
| 28 | 28 | [courses]. | |
| 29 | 29 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
