5	5	relating to the date of the general election for certain political
6	6	subdivisions.
7	7	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
8	8	SECTION 1. Section 41.0051, Election Code, is repealed.
9	9	SECTION 2. (a) Not later than December 31, 2009, each of
10	10	the following shall choose a uniform election date for its general
11	11	election for officers in 2011 and subsequent years:
12	12	(1) the governing body of a city that held its general
13	13	election for officers in 2007 on a date authorized by Section
14	14	41.0051, Election Code; and
15	15	(2) an independent school district located wholly or
16	16	partly in a city described by Subdivision (1) of this subsection.
17	17	(b) The governing body of a political subdivision required
18	18	to change its election date under this section shall adjust the
19	19	terms of office to conform to the new election date.
20	20	SECTION 3. All elections held under Section 41.0051,
21	21	Election Code, before the effective date of this Act are validated,
22	22	ratified, and confirmed in all respects.
23	23	SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
