55 relating to the assistance of the Texas Rangers in the
66 investigation of certain sex offenses.
77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Chapter 2, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
99 amended by adding Article 2.022 to read as follows:
1010 Art. 2.022. ASSISTANCE OF TEXAS RANGERS. (a) The attorney
1111 representing the state may request the Texas Rangers division of
1212 the Department of Public Safety to provide assistance to a local law
1313 enforcement agency investigating an offense that:
1414 (1) is alleged to have been committed by an elected
1515 officer of the political subdivision served by the local law
1616 enforcement agency; and
1717 (2) on conviction or adjudication, would subject the
1818 elected officer to registration as a sex offender under Chapter 62.
1919 (b) For purposes of this article, "assistance" includes
2020 investigative, technical, and administrative assistance.
2121 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2222 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2323 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2424 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2525 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
