| 5 | 5 | | relating to the assistance of the Texas Rangers in the |

| 6 | 6 | | investigation of certain sex offenses. |

| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Chapter 2, Code of Criminal Procedure, is |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | amended by adding Article 2.022 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Art. 2.022. ASSISTANCE OF TEXAS RANGERS. (a) The attorney |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | representing the state may request the Texas Rangers division of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the Department of Public Safety to provide assistance to a local law |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | enforcement agency investigating an offense that: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) is alleged to have been committed by an elected |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | officer of the political subdivision served by the local law |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | enforcement agency; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (2) on conviction or adjudication, would subject the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | elected officer to registration as a sex offender under Chapter 62. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (b) For purposes of this article, "assistance" includes |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | investigative, technical, and administrative assistance. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
