| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 20.063, Election Code, is amended by | |
| 11 | 11 | amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (e) to read as | |
| 12 | 12 | follows: | |
| 13 | 13 | (a) The Department of Public Safety shall provide to each | |
| 14 | 14 | person who applies in person at the department's offices or online | |
| 15 | 15 | at the department's Internet website for an original or renewal of a | |
| 16 | 16 | driver's license, a personal identification card, or a duplicate or | |
| 17 | 17 | corrected license or card an opportunity to complete a voter | |
| 18 | 18 | registration application form. | |
| 19 | 19 | (e) The secretary of state shall prescribe additional | |
| 20 | 20 | procedures as necessary to implement this section. | |
| 21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
