1010 relating to authorization by the Texas Higher Education
1111 Coordinating Board for certain public junior colleges to offer
1212 baccalaureate degree programs.
1313 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1414 SECTION 1. Sections 130.0012(a) and (b), Education Code,
1515 are amended to read as follows:
1616 (a) The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board shall
1717 authorize a public junior college [colleges] to offer a
1818 baccalaureate degree program that qualifies under Subsection (e)
1919 if:
2020 (1) the program is [programs] in the field [fields] of
2121 applied science or [and] applied technology; or
2222 (2) the public junior college previously participated
2323 in a pilot project to offer baccalaureate degree programs [under
2424 this section. Offering a baccalaureate degree program under this
2525 section does not otherwise alter the role and mission of a public
2626 junior college].
2727 (b) Offering a baccalaureate degree program under this
2828 section does not otherwise alter the role and mission of a public
2929 junior college. [The coordinating board shall authorize
3030 baccalaureate degree programs at each public junior college that
3131 previously participated in a pilot project to offer baccalaureate
3232 degree programs.]
3333 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3434 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3535 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3636 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3737 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
