55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the requirements for obtaining a veterinarian's special
88 license.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 801.256(b), Occupations Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (b) An applicant is eligible for a special license if:
1313 (1) the applicant:
1414 (A) is at least 21 years of age and a graduate of
1515 a board-approved veterinary medicine program at an institution of
1616 higher education; or
1717 (B) provides to the board a written affirmation
1818 by a person described under Subsection (f) that the applicant meets
1919 a critical need for staffing at the person's institution and is
2020 certified by a nationally recognized veterinary specialty board or
2121 is eligible for that certification; [and] or
2222 (C) is a graduate of an American Veterinary
2323 Medical Association-listed school or college of veterinary
2424 medicine and is employed in a post-Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
2525 training program at an American Veterinary Medical Association
2626 accredited school or college of veterinary medicine; and
2727 (2) the applicant passes the jurisprudence section of
2828 the licensing examination.
2929 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3030 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3131 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3232 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3333 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
