88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 707.017, Transportation Code, is amended
1010 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 707.017. ENFORCEMENT. (a) If the owner of a motor
1212 vehicle is delinquent in the payment of a civil penalty imposed
1313 under this chapter, the county assessor-collector or the Texas
1414 Department of Transportation may refuse to register a motor vehicle
1515 alleged to have been involved in the violation.
1616 (b) This section does not apply to the registration of a
1717 motor vehicle under Section 501.0234.
1818 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1919 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2020 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2121 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2222 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
