| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 644.101(c), Transportation Code, is | |

| 12 | 12 | (c) A sheriff or a deputy sheriff [of a county bordering the | |
| 13 | 13 | United Mexican States or of a county with a population of 2.2 | |
| 14 | 14 | million or more] is eligible to apply for certification under this | |
| 15 | 15 | section. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
