55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to restricting illegal immigrants to certain geographic
88 regions.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 421, Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 421.902 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 421.902. RESTRICTION OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO CERTAIN
1313 GEOGRAPHIC AREAS. (a) In this section:
1414 (1) "Illegal immigrant" means an individual who is not
1515 a citizen or a national of the United States and who has entered the
1616 United States without inspection and authorization by an
1717 immigration officer.
1818 (2) "Sanctuary city" means a municipality that adopts
1919 a resolution declaring that the municipality does not discriminate
2020 or deny municipal services on the basis of a person's immigration
2121 status and that all persons are treated equally regardless of
2222 immigration status.
2323 (b) All illegal immigrants residing in this state shall
2424 reside in a sanctuary city.
2525 (c) The Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas
2626 shall:
2727 (1) disseminate information in English and in Spanish
2828 to the general public regarding the requirements of this section;
2929 and
3030 (2) adopt procedures to implement and administer this
3131 subsection.
3232 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3333 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3434 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3535 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3636 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
