9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 38, Education Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 38.020 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 38.020. NURSE ASSIGNMENT REQUIRED. A school district | |
13 | 13 | that has an enrollment of at least 1,000 students shall employ at | |
14 | 14 | least one full-time school nurse for each 500 students enrolled in | |
15 | 15 | the district. The district shall assign at least one full-time | |
16 | 16 | school nurse to each district campus and shall assign any | |
17 | 17 | additional school nurses based on the medical needs of students at a | |
18 | 18 | particular campus. | |
19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2009-2010 | |
20 | 20 | school year. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
22 | 22 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
23 | 23 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
24 | 24 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
25 | 25 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
