66 AN ACT
77 relating to the appointment of certain representatives to regional
88 water planning groups.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 16.053(c), Water Code, is amended to
1111 read as follows:
1212 (c) No later than 60 days after the designation of the
1313 regions under Subsection (b), the board shall designate
1414 representatives within each regional water planning area to serve
1515 as the initial coordinating body for planning. The initial
1616 coordinating body may then designate additional representatives to
1717 serve on the regional water planning group. The initial
1818 coordinating body shall designate additional representatives if
1919 necessary to ensure adequate representation from the interests
2020 comprising that region, including the public, counties,
2121 municipalities, industries, agricultural interests, environmental
2222 interests, small businesses, electric generating utilities, river
2323 authorities, water districts, and water utilities. The regional
2424 water planning group shall maintain adequate representation from
2525 those interests. In addition, the commissioners court of each
2626 county located in the regional water planning area shall appoint
2727 one representative of the county to the regional water planning
2828 group. In addition, representatives of the board, the Parks and
2929 Wildlife Department, and the Department of Agriculture shall serve
3030 as ex officio members of each regional water planning group.
3131 SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date
3232 of this Act, the commissioners court of each county in this state
3333 shall appoint an initial representative of the county to the
3434 regional water planning group for the regional water planning area
3535 in which the county is located, as required by Section 16.053(c),
3636 Water Code, as amended by this Act.
3737 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
