55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to applicability of fee exemptions for military personnel
88 and their children to certain course fees charged by public
99 technical institutes and public state colleges.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 54.203(g), Education Code, is amended to
1212 read as follows:
1313 (g) The governing board of a public junior college, public
1414 technical institute, or public state college, as those terms are
1515 defined by Section 61.003, [district] may establish a fee for
1616 extraordinary costs associated with a specific course or program
1717 and may provide that the exemptions provided by Subsections (a) and
1818 (b) do not apply to this fee.
1919 SECTION 2. Section 54.203, Education Code, as amended by
2020 this Act, applies beginning with fees charged for the 2009 fall
2121 semester. Fees charged for an academic period before that semester
2222 are covered by the law in effect immediately before the effective
2323 date of this Act, and the former law is continued in effect for that
2424 purpose.
2525 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2626 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2727 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2828 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2929 Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
