8 | 8 | nonrenewal of a motor vehicle liability insurance policy. | |
9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 601.454(a), Transportation Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (a) Each insurance company providing motor vehicle | |
13 | 13 | liability insurance policies in this state shall: | |
14 | 14 | (1) provide necessary information for motor vehicle | |
15 | 15 | liability insurance [those] policies to allow the agent to carry | |
16 | 16 | out this subchapter, subject to the agent's contract with the | |
17 | 17 | implementing agencies and rules adopted under this subchapter; and | |
18 | 18 | (2) inform the agent of the policyholder's name if the | |
19 | 19 | insurance company cancels or does not renew a motor vehicle | |
20 | 20 | liability insurance policy. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. Section 601.454(a), Transportation Code, as | |
22 | 22 | amended by this Act, applies only to the cancellation or nonrenewal | |
23 | 23 | of a motor vehicle liability insurance policy on or after the | |
24 | 24 | effective date of this Act. The cancellation or nonrenewal of a | |
25 | 25 | motor vehicle liability insurance policy before the effective date | |
26 | 26 | of this Act is covered by the law in effect on the date the policy is | |
27 | 27 | canceled or is not renewed, and that former law is continued in | |
28 | 28 | effect. | |
29 | 29 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
