A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the designation of certain roads as the Historic
Bankhead Highway.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 201, Transportation Code,
is amended by adding Section 201.621 to read as follows:
Sec. 201.621. BANKHEAD HIGHWAY AS TEXAS HISTORIC HIGHWAY.
(a) The following segments of roads in the corporate limits of the
City of Garland are designated as the Historic Bankhead Highway:
(1) State Highway 66 between the corporate limits of
the city and Centerville Road, and between Commerce Street and East
Avenue B;
(2) Centerville Road between State Highway 66 and
Commerce Street, and along Commerce Street until it intersects
State Highway 66;
(3) East Avenue B between State Highway 66 and East
Avenue A;
(4) East Avenue A between East Avenue B and South First
Street;
(5) South First Street between East Avenue A and Main
Street;
(6) Main Street between South First Street and South
Garland Avenue;
(7) South Garland Avenue between Main Street and the
corporate limits of the city; and
(8) East Avenue D between South First Street and State
Highway 66.
(b) The department shall design and construct markers
indicating the designation as the Historic Bankhead Highway and any
other appropriate information. The department shall:
(1) erect a marker on State Highway 66 where it crosses
the corporate limits of the City of Garland; and
(2) cooperate with the City of Garland to establish a
marker at the city's eastern corporate limits and at appropriate
intervals along the route.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
