77 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
88 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 392, Local Government
99 Code, is amended by adding Section 392.067 to read as follows:
1010 Sec. 392.067. VETERANS HOUSING IN CERTAIN COUNTIES. (a) In
1111 this section, "veteran" means a person who has served on active duty
1212 in the armed forces of the United States or in the state military
1313 forces as defined by Section 431.001, Government Code.
1414 (b) A county or municipal housing authority in a county with
1515 a population of more than 500,000 may borrow money, accept grants,
1616 and exercise its powers to provide safe and sanitary housing
1717 communities for veterans.
1818 (c) As the authority considers necessary to achieve the
1919 purposes of this chapter, an authority may enter into a lease or
2020 purchase agreement or accept a conveyance regarding real property
2121 as part of a housing project that will benefit veterans. The
2222 agreement or conveyance may include any restrictive covenants that
2323 the authority considers appropriate regarding the property. As the
2424 authority considers necessary and on the stipulation of the
2525 parties, the covenants run with the property.
2626 (d) A county or municipal housing authority to which this
2727 section applies is not subject to the limitations in Section
2828 392.014, 392.015, or 392.017 with respect to a housing project that
2929 benefits veterans as authorized by this section.
3030 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
