13 | 13 | SECTION 1. Subchapter I, Chapter 201, Transportation Code, | |
14 | 14 | is amended by adding Section 201.712 to read as follows: | |
15 | 15 | Sec. 201.712. REQUIREMENTS FOR AGGREGATE IN HIGHWAY | |
16 | 16 | IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS. (a) In this section, "glass cullet" means | |
17 | 17 | recycled, crushed glass suitable as a replacement for gravel | |
18 | 18 | aggregate in roadway construction. | |
19 | 19 | (b) Each year the department shall use, or enter into a | |
20 | 20 | contract to use, at least 10,000 cubic yards per year of glass | |
21 | 21 | cullet gathered in this state as a replacement for aggregate | |
22 | 22 | material. | |
23 | 23 | SECTION 2. Section 201.712, Transportation Code, as added | |
24 | 24 | by this Act, applies only to a year that begins on or after January | |
25 | 25 | 1, 2010. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
