10 | 10 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
11 | 11 | SECTION 1. Section 28.002(n), Education Code, is amended to | |
12 | 12 | read as follows: | |
13 | 13 | (n) The State Board of Education shall [may] by rule | |
14 | 14 | develop and implement a plan designed to incorporate foundation | |
15 | 15 | curriculum requirements into the career and technology education | |
16 | 16 | curriculum under Subsection (a)(2)(F). In developing and | |
17 | 17 | implementing the plan, the board shall ensure that the career and | |
18 | 18 | technology education curriculum is provided as an optional | |
19 | 19 | supplement for students instead of as a substitute for foundation | |
20 | 20 | curriculum classes designed to prepare a student for postsecondary | |
21 | 21 | education. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 2. Section 29.183, Education Code, is amended by | |
23 | 23 | adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | |
24 | 24 | (d) Career and technology classes may not be offered as a | |
25 | 25 | substitute for academic classes designed to prepare a student for | |
26 | 26 | postsecondary education. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2010-2011 | |
28 | 28 | school year. | |
29 | 29 | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
