| 6 | 6 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 7 | 7 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | amended by adding Section 662.106 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Sec. 662.106. HYDROCEPHALUS AWARENESS MONTH. (a) October |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | is Hydrocephalus Awareness Month to: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (1) increase public awareness of hydrocephalus, a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | serious neurological condition characterized by the abnormal |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | buildup of cerebrospinal fluids in the ventricles of the brain; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (2) encourage the development of partnerships between |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the federal government, health care professionals, and patient |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | advocacy groups to advance the public's understanding of the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | condition, improve the diagnosis and treatment of the condition, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and support research for a cure. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (b) Hydrocephalus Awareness Month shall be regularly |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | observed by appropriate activities in public schools and other |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | places to increase awareness of hydrocephalus. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
