9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 13, Water Code, is amended | |
11 | 11 | by adding Section 13.148 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 13.148. STUDY OF FIRE FLOW SERVICE BY WATER SUPPLY | |
13 | 13 | CORPORATIONS. (a) The commission shall conduct a study regarding | |
14 | 14 | the role of water supply corporations in providing potable water | |
15 | 15 | for fire flow that is sufficient to support the placement of fire | |
16 | 16 | hydrants and the connection of the water system to fire suppression | |
17 | 17 | equipment in semi-urban areas experiencing rapid development. | |
18 | 18 | (b) The study required by Subsection (a) must examine: | |
19 | 19 | (1) the actions a water supply corporation must take | |
20 | 20 | to supply adequate fire flow in semi-urban areas; and | |
21 | 21 | (2) the costs associated with providing adequate fire | |
22 | 22 | flow in semi-urban areas. | |
23 | 23 | (c) Not later than December 1, 2010, the commission shall | |
24 | 24 | submit a report regarding the results of the study to the | |
25 | 25 | legislature. | |
26 | 26 | (d) This section expires September 2, 2011. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
