9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 53.001, Government Code, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | adding Subsection (k) to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (k) Each district court judge in Cameron County may appoint | |
13 | 13 | bailiffs. | |
14 | 14 | SECTION 2. Section 53.004, Government Code, is amended by | |
15 | 15 | adding Subsection (h) to read as follows: | |
16 | 16 | (h) To be eligible to be appointed as a bailiff in a district | |
17 | 17 | or statutory county court in Cameron County under Section | |
18 | 18 | 53.001(k), a person must be at least 21 years old, be of good moral | |
19 | 19 | character, and hold a peace officer license issued under Chapter | |
20 | 20 | 1701, Occupations Code, from the Commission on Law Enforcement | |
21 | 21 | Officer Standards and Education. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
