| 11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 501.033, Transportation Code, is amended | |
| 13 | 13 | by adding Subsections (e) and (f) to read as follows: | |
| 14 | 14 | (e) If the auto theft unit of a county or municipal law | |
| 15 | 15 | enforcement agency conducts an inspection required by the | |
| 16 | 16 | department under this section, the agency may impose a fee of $40. | |
| 17 | 17 | The county or municipal treasurer shall credit the fee to the | |
| 18 | 18 | general fund of the county or municipality, as applicable, to | |
| 19 | 19 | defray the agency's costs associated with the inspection. | |
| 20 | 20 | (f) A fee under this section shall be waived by the | |
| 21 | 21 | department or agency imposing the fee if the person applying for an | |
| 22 | 22 | assigned vehicle number under this section is the current | |
| 23 | 23 | registered owner of the vehicle. | |
| 24 | 24 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
