| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Section 85.003(f), Local Government Code, is | |
| 10 | 10 | amended to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | (f) A deputy who is included in the coverage of a civil | |
| 12 | 12 | service system created under Chapter 158 may be suspended or | |
| 13 | 13 | removed only for a violation of a civil service rule adopted under | |
| 14 | 14 | that system, except that a deputy who is covered under an agreement | |
| 15 | 15 | adopted under Chapter 174 may be suspended or removed only | |
| 16 | 16 | according to the terms of that agreement. | |
| 17 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 18 | 18 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 19 | 19 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 20 | 20 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 21 | 21 | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
