Provisions of the bill would allow veterans, as well as their primary or other necessary caregiver, receiving health care services from a hospital, health clinic, or other facility operated by the Veterans Health Administration of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to stay, free of charge, in a vacant room of a housing facility located at and operated by an institution of higher education while the veteran is receiving the health care services if the institution is able to accommodate and approves the veteran's request for temporary housing, is located a reasonable distance from the facility, and the veteran resides more than 100 miles from the facility. Institutions of higher education report that implementing provisions of this bill would have minimal fiscal implications and could be done within existing resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
