5	5	relating to the authority of certain political subdivisions to
6	6	change the date of their general elections.
7	7	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
8	8	SECTION 1. Section 41.0052, Election Code, is amended by
9	9	adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
10	10	(a-1) The governing body of a political subdivision, other
11	11	than a county, that holds its general election for officers on a
12	12	date other than the November uniform election date may, not later
13	13	than December 31, 2010, change the date on which it holds its
14	14	general election for officers to the November uniform election
15	15	date.
16	16	SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
17	17	a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
18	18	provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
19	19	Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
20	20	Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
