11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 22, Education Code, is |
---|
13 | 13 | | amended by adding Section 22.012 to read as follows: |
---|
14 | 14 | | Sec. 22.012. REQUIRING OR COERCING EMPLOYEES TO MAKE |
---|
15 | 15 | | CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS. (a) A school district board of trustees |
---|
16 | 16 | | or school district employee may not directly or indirectly require |
---|
17 | 17 | | or coerce any school district employee to: |
---|
18 | 18 | | (1) make a contribution to a charitable organization |
---|
19 | 19 | | or in response to a fund-raiser; or |
---|
20 | 20 | | (2) attend a meeting called for the purpose of |
---|
21 | 21 | | soliciting charitable contributions. |
---|
22 | 22 | | (b) A school district board of trustees or school district |
---|
23 | 23 | | employee may not directly or indirectly require or coerce any |
---|
24 | 24 | | school district employee to refrain from: |
---|
25 | 25 | | (1) making a contribution to a charitable organization |
---|
26 | 26 | | or in response to a fund-raiser; or |
---|
27 | 27 | | (2) attending a meeting called for the purpose of |
---|
28 | 28 | | soliciting charitable contributions. |
---|
29 | 29 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
30 | 30 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
31 | 31 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
32 | 32 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
33 | 33 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
